6-23 My thoughts on the different technologies out there.

There are a lot of new technologies out there and more pop up all the time. It’s hard to say which ones will last and which ones won’t. I do believe the more people interact with each other the better.

Sites like flickr and photobucket are really great for personalizing your stories and yourself. Friends from around the world can communicate instantly with their favorite pics. Wiggio and path let’s you communicate with your small group of friends or teammates.

Reddit, Digg and other sites let you read the most popular articles and vote your approval or disapproval.

Other sites such as Quora, Qwiki, foursquare and phanoto really let you explore new ideas and techniques. And like asana and stumbleupon the site are designed to help you in at least one way to make your life easier.

6-23 FINAL

New technologies I LOVE/HATE

I gotta tell you I really like QWIKI. I always find myself looking up something on the web and reading through a number of links. The idea of an informative slideshow with voice over is really unique. They have to do some tweaking to do but I like Qwiki. Read up on it:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qwiki

Not to beat a dead horse but I just don’t like PATH. I can’t see how this can survive much longer. It is very limited and there are other sites out there that seem to offer more. Check it out for yourself. http://www.path.com/

Good Luck
June 23 - My “INVENTED” Mashup

I would love to invent a mashup that people could access and rate their ergonomic office supplies. Things such as a keyboard, desk, mouse and even a pillow.

It’s hard to pick one out when the only thing you can go by is a fancy box or  claim form some group you never heard of.

I had a chair a while back that claimed to be great for your posture and removed stress from your body….NOT…I wish someone could have let me know their opinion.

A TECHNOLOGY I DO NOT THINK WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME……….

This is not an easy task. In order to be fair I would need quite some time to play around and experiment with it.  I do feel, however, that PATH just isn’t going to make it. There are a lot of social media sites out there and it will be really hard to pull people away from twitter. PATH  appears to be quite limited as it only allows you 50 friends to socialize with. Let’s face it there are times when we want to send a comment of pic to more than 50 people. What if we were in a group or had a fan base we wanted to communicate with? It’s just going to be tough to take from twitter.

MY TOP 3 TECHNOLOGIES

Not in any order but I like Qwiki, Reddit, and StumbleUpon.

1.  Qwiki, let’s face it, there’s a lot of information on the web these days. Personally I usually use Google to find whatever I need. You know, type in your need and you are faced with hundreds of web sites related to that request. With Qwiki you type in your search and you get different options but instead of reading through all the text you get “an informative slideshow with voice-over.” This is cool.

**Qwiki will definitely succeed with the public. I do think it needs to spruce up its audio a bit, but I’m sure they’ll take care of that.

2. StumbleUpon, allows you to discover and share your many websites that match your personal preference. They track your type of searches and recommend similar ones to fit your style. These are sites recommended by others and you can give a thumbs up or thumbs down if you like or dislike a particular site.

**StumbleUpon, has a good chance of surviving in the future. I believe people are looking for more options for searching and this does bring some flair.

3. Reddit, ”A source for what’s new and popular on the web.” POPULAR is the key word here. How many times do you search for something that others like or dislike? With Reddit you can search many different criteria, such as sports, local news, world news, comedy and so much more. Reddit tracks the most popular and allows you to give your input, good or bad. You just want to read a funny joke? Search your favorite category and you can feel confident that the upvotes will tell you if you’re in for a funny read. Then you score it.

**Reddit, is a site I will use personally. Maybe not every day but definitely on a regular basis. It takes away a lot of the guessing game when looking for something. I can see Reddit be around for quite a while.

FIRST, I just want to say “HAPPY  SUMMER”

New Technologies we read about:

Quora - a collection of questions and answers, an online collaborative where real people answer your questions

Reddit - “I read it on reddit” cute play on words. A source for what’s new on the web. News, comedy, sports you name it you can find a story here.

PhotoBucket - a new site to upload your photos and videos. Very similar to flickr. It is fast but doesn’t offer a lot of storage space but you can get more for $$$

FourSquare - explore areas in your area wherever you are. Kind of like a fancy yellow pages. The more you sign in the more chances you have to win a prize.

Wiggio - allows you to communicate with your select groups and friends. Keeps track of your files and acts as a calendar. Kind of a personal assistant.

Phanoto - encourages you to take any and all kinds of pics at sporting events and post them. The more bizarre the better. Fans vote for their favorite and you could win something.

Asana - This is a project management software. It is best used for personal use or for a business with less than 50 people.

Path - This is similar to twitter. You can communicate with the ones you select but you are only allowed 50 friends.

Qwiki - You look up items, people, place or event and you get a brief video tutorial about the topic.

Stumbleupon - a search engine that monitors your searches and starts to recommend web sites based on your search history. It kind of personalized web search.

***SIMILARITIES**

Reddit is similar to Digg: at this point I like Reddit better than Digg. I found it easier to navigate and I liked its format.

PhotoBucket is similar to flickr: Flickr is hands down better. I have begun to use flickr and am still learning my way around it and like it a lot. Easier navigation.

Path is similar to twitter:  Twitter is just everywhere right now. I don’t like the fact Path limits you to just 50 friends. It can be a nice feature but you also need to be able to access more people.
